IELTS Essay Task 2: Schools should select students ……..

Some people think that schools should select students according to their academic abilities, while others believe that it is better to have students with different abilities studying together. Discuss both views and state your opinion.
(250 words, 40 minutes)


Introduction: Do not repeat the language of the question in your answer. Use synonyms and rephrasing to restructure the sentence.

Example: Modern education system follows two approaches to teach students. On one hand are schools where students are selected on the basis of their academic scores. On the other hand are those where pupils of varying abilities study together in same class. Though most schools prefer the former system of education over the latter, I believe both systems have advantages as well as disadvantages.

After introduction let me present 2 reasons along with examples for each of the views.

Reasons supporting former view:

Reason 1: Selecting and sorting students on the basis of competitive scores helps institutions meet separate needs of each student group. For instance, while an academically intelligent group may be ready to compete internationally for NASA competition, an academically poor group may need support for learning basic stuff.
