You borrowed some books from your school or college library. Unfortunately, you have to go away to visit a sick relative and cannot return the books in time. Write a letter to the library. Explain what has happened and tell them what you want to do about it.
Writing a letter, like essay, involves determining a structure. Similar to an essay it involves writing an introduction followed by reasons supporting your introduction.
Introduction: Explain the problem. Not the solution. Most students commit the mistake of offering solution in introduction. In this case, for instance “I will return the books next week”. That is supposed to be the conclusion.
Once you’ve stated the problem in the introduction, its time to explain the issue in body paragraphs. Explanation must be LOGICAL in nature. I rather suggest students to create a story. For instance:
- Who and What? 85 years old aunt who broke her leg.
- How? while taking a shower.
- When? early this morning.
- Where? in a village 100 miles or kilometres from here.
- Why? because she does not have anyone to take care of at such ripe age.
Finally, in conclusion you should offer solution to the problem.
