Most students do not know how to request an examiner to repeat the question. Often, when they fail to understand a question, they simply say “WHAT”? This is rude to the examiner and will terribly affect your score. So, what is the right (polite) way to request?
Well, you can simply say “Excuse me” or “Pardon me“. Or you can say “Sorry, could you say that again please?”
Now, the problem starts when you’re not able to understand the second time. What do you say then. Can’t repeat the above phrases. Right?
Here are a few responses:
“I’m sorry. I didn’t get that again.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t catch that again.”
Now, if the issue is that you didn’t understand the question’s meaning, you can simply say.
“Pardon me, but I didn’t understand the question. Could you express it in another way please.”
Trust me! There will be situations when you’ll have to ask for a repetition. These sentences will come handy in those tense situations when you’re anxious that a wrong or misplaced word may affect your band score.
