Personally, I believe tourism has more advantages than disadvantages. However, before we start this essay, let me propose a few ideas on disadvantages:
- Stress/ pressure on infrastructure.
- Pollution (solid as well as air)
- Seasonal (no jobs in non-season)
Introduction: (MENTION the points that will be EXPLAINED in the body. Give OPINION)
Tourism is a major source of income both for some developing and developed countries. It not only brings employment opportunities and cultural assimilation but also a much-needed boost to the local economy at a time of global recession. However, it has several disadvantages such as extreme pressure on infrastructure, higher inflation, greater pollution – both solid as well as air, and little revenue in non-season.
Body Paragraph 1: (EXPLAIN one point in each paragraph)
Firstly, tourism leads to enormous stress on infrastructure. Local administrations are mostly not prepared for huge inflow of tourists during a season. For instance, in several areas of Europe such as Venice and Milan in Italy, the influx of tourists increases the water demand significantly. This leads to water cuts in these cities that are otherwise unknown in a developed country.
Body Paragraph 2: (EXPLAIN one point in each paragraph)
Secondly, more travelers translate to high inflation during the tourism season. Tourists spend more money than natives, and this leads to increase in overall prices in the locality. Moreover, tourist destinations also increase prices because tourists are ready to pay more. This, unintendedly, increases prices for residents as well.
Body Paragraph 3: (EXPLAIN one point in each paragraph)
Finally, tourism inflow often leads to pollution – air, water, and land. Tourists dispose of a huge quantity of waste material, mostly plastic, which is non-biodegradable. Due to non-existent Waste Management systems, tourist islands like Bali have become an ocean of plastic waste. Moreover, tourists need vehicles for transportation. Consequently, a greater number of tourists often translates to more air pollution.
Conclusion: (Solutions to problems stated above)
In conclusion, tourism has a number of disadvantages. However, these can be controlled by the active participation of governments and individuals – both tourists and residents. While government should upgrade infrastructure for the influx of tourists and impose a ban on plastic waste, residents and tourists should behave responsibly to preserve the ecosystem.
