Increasing income levels across the world and falling cost of travel since mid-twentieth century have enabled people to travel more. People prefer traveling both abroad and locally. I believe that they should first explore their own country before touring other countries during holidays. This not only makes the regional economy stronger and creates local jobs but also helps people understand local cultures.

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1 with example 1)

Touring one’s own country adds economic value that helps sustain regions totally dependent on tourism. For instance, the North Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are reliant on tourism for the creation of jobs and wealth. People throughout India visit these states for witnessing the beauty of the Himalayas and, in turn, support local families. This also helps reduce regional imbalance within a country.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2 with example 2)

Moreover, traveling within a country helps people understand local customs, traditions, and language. This helps make a diverse country like India unitary. For instance, India is a mosaic of hundreds of cultures ranging from Tamil and Malayalam in the south to Punjabi and Kashmiri in the North. Similarly, there are more than a hundred languages spoken within India with about one thousand dialects. Before venturing to foreign lands and understanding their culture, it is vital for Indians to understand these cultures. 

In addition, exploring a local area is less costly as compared to touring other countries. Most of the expenses for international travel are not on recreation but on transportation. Recreating in local areas helps spend money on holidaying rather than on airfare.

In conclusion, exploring the length and breadth of one’s own country will make local economy stronger, create more jobs and reduce cultural gaps that divide a country. Though visiting foreign countries is important for business purposes, one must give preference to one’s own country for recreational purposes.
