IELTS Essay Correction: Global Warming – Causes and Solutions, 2.

Global warming is one of the most serious issues that the world is facing today. What are the causes of global warming and what measures can governments and individuals take to tackle the issue?

Here is a correction to another student’s answer.

In recent times, the issue of global warming has been a (Article usage) widely discussed topic among environmentalists, journalists, and the general public. While it is widely known that the activities of man such as bush burning, gas flaring, and coal mining are the major reasons of global warming, research is still ongoing about possible causes and solutions.

When the ozone layer covering the atmosphere is depleted, the earth receives direct heat of from the sun. Not only does the atmospheric temperature increases as a result of global warming, ice melts and also land and aquatic organisms die (understand Not Only, But Also construction.). A global survey conducted in 2012 stated that in order to prevent global rise in temperature, man must protect the environment and end frequent deforestation.

Not only, but also: Global warming not only X but also Y. This means that global warming leads to both X and Y.

Not only X global warming but also Y: Y has no link with global warming.

Correct sample sentence: Global warming not only increases atmospheric temperature but also melts ice and lead to the death of several animal and bird species.

The United Nations held a meeting on in January 2017, and it was resolved that countries must put a ceiling on the volume of gases flared annually. This can be effectively be implemented by increasing the tax paid by oil companies whenever they flare gas. Though this came as a good resolution, it was opposed by major oil and gas producing countries on the grounds that they will run into deficit if such this is implemented.
Global concern is still mounting up and it is estimated that if the current rate of atmospheric temperature increase is continued, that life may cease to exist on earth.

No solutions proposed. 

In conclusion, to sustain life on earth, human activities must be watched. Once this is done, there will be a drastic drop on global warming and life on earth will be assured.
