Global warming is one of the most serious issues that the world is facing today. What are the causes of global warming and what measures can governments and individuals take to tackle the issue?
40 minutes, 250 words at least.
Introduction: (Introduce the topic and MENTION the causes that you’ll EXPLAIN in the body paragraphs. Reserve SOLUTIONS for the penultimate paragraph)
Global warming, along with poverty, terrorism, inequality, and scarcity of water, is an existential threat to humanity. It is caused by various factors ranging from anthropogenic to natural.
Body Paragraph 1: (Causes: Anthropogenic)
Humans have contributed heavily to the emission of greenhouse gases through factories, construction activities, transportation and cutting down of forests. Deforestation is one of the most important anthropogenic factors since trees consume excess carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, and balance the proportion of gases into the atmosphere. Transportation activity has also added several heat-trapping greenhouse gases in large quantities into the atmosphere. Manufacturing of products requires consumption of fossil fuels such as coal and oils which, when burnt, produce carbon dioxide.
Body Paragraph 2: (Causes: Natural)
However, nature itself releases tons of green house gases into the atmosphere every day. Natural activities such as volcanic eruptions and solar cycles have played a significant role in past periods of warming and freezing of earth. When these activities increase, the earth goes through a phase of warming and when they subside, the planet witnesses ice age. Moreover, a large number of animals also produce methane, the most powerful greenhouse gas, in their gut and release it in the atmosphere.
Body Paragraph 3: (Solutions)
Rapid advancements in technology have given humans several tools to fight global warming. Governmental policy support and Affordability of solar cells has enabled us to utilize the limitless non-polluting potential of Sun’s energy both in industries and transportation. Furthermore, global campaigns by governments on afforestation have not only raised awareness of every individual to plant and preserve trees but also created environment funds which are government financed funds to preserve environments.
Conclusion: (Conclude the essay with FUTURE and IMPACT)
In conclusion, the problem of global warming is both anthropogenic and natural. However, individual efforts facilitated and financed by governments across the world can help us contain the increase in earth’s temperature to two degree-Celsius. Our inability to unite and act against this menace will have a catastrophic impact.
