Introduction: (Introduce the topic, state your opinion, MENTION the reasons that you’ll EXPLAIN in the body.)
In an era of escalating medical costs, most of which are borne by the already burdened state exchequer, the issues of health education and prevention of diseases are more important than ever before. I believe that governments should divert a significant proportion of their health budgets to creating awareness on preventative measures since these are not only less costly than curing a disease but also keep people more productive.
Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1: less costly)
With a rapid increase in population, deterioration of lifestyle and advancements in medical technology humans can be saved from any life threatening condition. However, the budget deficits of almost all countries have spiked during the past five decades primarily due to increase in the cost of medical care. Reducing the need of such care can significantly curtail the government’s expenditure. For instance, an experiment in the United States revealed that creating awareness through advertisements on benefits of a healthy diet reduced a state’s total health expenditure by more than 20 percent.
Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2: More productive)
Moreover, health education in community centers and advertising preventative measures such as a healthy diet enable a person to stay productive. Though a person can be cured of a disease in a hospital, that person is never again as productive as he was earlier. On an average, it takes more than a year for a person to gain full health and productivity after an operation. Consequently, it is better to create awareness on benefits of a healthy lifestyle than cure a disease.
Conclusion: (Conclude the topic with FUTURE and IMPACT)
Health education and preventative measures can significantly reduce the budgetary spending, and fix the broken and bloated health care systems of various countries such as the United States. They also have the potential to add economic productivity increasing the wealth of a nation.
