A few days ago I checked a student’s answer to this topic. Please visit the blog post HERE.

Introduction: (Introduce the topic and state your opinion. MENTION the reasons supporting your opinion. EXPLAIN in the body paragraphs.)

Learning history is important because it helps us understand not only the present world but also avoid committing the mistakes of the past generations. I believe both local and world history are equally important. While local history enables children to learn about regional culture and politics, world history allows them to understand how global events shape their region

Body Paragraph 1: (Importance of Local History)

Local history is the history of one’s own ancestors living in the same geographical area. It helps children connect with the past and learn about the innumerable sacrifices the past generations made to create a vibrant present. For instance, Punjab’s history teaches Sikh children how their gurus made sacrifices to protect the residents from religious persecution of the Mughal government. Similarly, the local history of Mohanjodaro and Harappa civilizations teaches students how the forces of nature, if disturbed, can destroy human civilizations. It also teaches them about regional geography, culture, and religious identities.

Body Paragraph 2: (Importance of World History)

The world history complements the local history in helping a student understand the world.  Undoubtedly, the present world is a product of the past, and future generations should avoid the mistakes of the past generations to create a sustainable ecosystem. For instance, understanding the reasons behind world wars and genocides helps students appreciate the need for an inclusive and consensus based approach to solving problems. Moreover, understanding past global events in other countries helps students understand the present problems in their locality. For example, the Great Depression of the 1930s and global financial crisis of 2008 had similar causes. Understanding these two financial events, separated by more than seven decades, will help students prevent future financial catastrophes.

Conclusion: (Conclude the essay with FUTURE and IMPACT)

In conclusion, both global history and local history are important in shaping students’ understanding of the modern world. They are equally necessary for understanding the society and politics of a region along with preventing any future calamity.

Some would argue that for children knowledge about regional history is essential than the World history. Albeit both the regional and World history have their relevance in this multicultural world. Nonetheless, these two individual aspects show the diversity of the universe.

On the one hand, local history talks about the our own existence and of our ancestors which is quite cardinal in the development of the modern world children. For instance, India is a country which is considered as a land of diversity, vast culture, more than 50 dialects, numerous festivals, scrumptious cuisines and much more. If we would teach our children about local history so these enormously important historical facts and information would be intact with them. It gives them aspiration to look back and at the same time be aware about the traditions and cultural values.

On the other hand, World history has been undoubtedly significant role to play in the development of children. Moreover, it is an overview of past as well as it lays down the future path. For example, the destruction that the hole world has seen in the World War I and World War II which engulfed everyone throughout the globe. In addition to this, we took several measures to avoid the future issues as well. In other words, World history teaches us about the global issues and how to survive in this era of globalization. It gives our children a broader and unbiased view of the world.

In conclusion, it is truly and essentially required to learn about both the local history and World history. They contribute to the development of children in a certain ways. In future, both the histories will emerge as an aspect to the children.
