In many countries, it is now illegal to smoke in public places. It is only fair that people who wish to smoke should have to leave the building. Do you agree or disagree?

40 minutes, 250 words.

Answer:

Introduction: (Introduce the topic with a general sentence and state your OPINION. MENTION the reasons supporting your opinion that you plan to explain in the body paragraphs.)

Several countries have banned smoking in public places since it is harmful to not only the active smokers but also the passive recipients. It must be prohibited in populated areas since it has detrimental impacts on the vulnerable sections such as patients and children. (44 words)

Body Paragraph 1: (Explain – detrimental impacts on patients)

Patients in hospitals, homes and care centers have a weaker immune system and are prone to infections. Consequently, pollution from a burning cigarette can severely impact their health condition. For instance, a recent All India Institute of Medica Science (AIIMS) study has found that the critically ill patients who live in an atmosphere of passive smoking live at least six months less than other patients. In the interest of these patients, governments must prohibit smoking inside all buildings. (77 words.)

Body Paragraph 2: (Explain – detrimental impacts on children)

Youngsters have an impressionable mind and are more psychologically prone to smoking if they come across active smokers. Moreover, their immunity is not as strong as adults and have greater chances of catching life-threatening diseases if they are exposed to passive smoking. The Ministry of Health in India declared in 2016 that children and teenagers who are exposed to smoking either at home or in the community have at least forty percent greater chance of becoming active smokers. Consequently, banning smoking in public places will reduce the probability of children falling prey of this deadly habit. (96 words.)

Conclusion: (Conclude the essay with FUTURE and IMPACT)

In conclusion, if smoking is prohibited in buildings and public spaces, it will not only reduce the probability of smoking among youngsters but also improve the physical health of the non-smokers. This will eventually seriously decrease the health bill of a country and boost the economic productivity of its citizens. (50 words.)
