The line graph gives information about the transportation of commodities in million tonnes (mention units with the primary object – “percentage of people” for instance.) through roadways, waterways, railways, and pipeline, in the United Kingdom between 1974 and 2002.
Units are measured in Million Tonnes. (placement of other objects is fine. Discuss with me, if you wish.)
Overall, it can be seen that roadways were the most popular means of transportation of goods over the given period, followed by waterways, which started equally with railways in 1974
, (no comma here) but increased towards the end. The lowest amount of transportation was done through pipelines. (Well-written comparison of different modes. Good job!)
Around 5 million tonnes of goods were transported through pipelines in 1974, which gradually (nature of increase) increased in 1982 to around 15 million and remained stable for the next 8 years. It further increased and reached a peak at around 22 million tonnes in 1994 and then showed a period of stability till the end.
As for railways, 40 million tonnes of goods were transported through it in 1974, after which it decreased and reached 30 million by 1986 Railways transported about 40 million tonnes in 1974 and this amount gradually/ consistently fell to about 30 million tonnes in 1986 (Write simple ACTIVE VOICE plain sentences that express comparison and trends. Discuss this sentence with me.). It continued to show a period of instability before reaching the same point of around recovering to about 40 million in 2002.
Around 40 million tonnes of goods were transported through waterways in 1974, which (Please understand the usage of pronoun which. It refers to the nearest noun. Here it refers to waterways, not the tonnes. Moreover, the sentence is in the passive voice. Waterways carried/ transported 40 million tonnes of goods in 1974 which suddenly increased to 60 million tonnes in 1986.) increased further to reach the peak at around 60 million in 1986 and remained stable before falling and
increasing over rising above 60 million in 2002. Goods transported through roadways was almost 70 million tonnes in 1974, which then increased to show a fluctuation which, despite some fluctuations, increased consistently to reach around 100 million tonnes by 1998 and then remained stable towards the end.
Please note: You write really well and could have easily scored 7+ if you had structured your sentences a little better (read active voice) and mentioned the NATURE of increase/ decrease. Bands = 6.5.
