The maps below show the center of a small town called Islip as it is now and plans for its development.

Answer:

The two maps illustrate both the current construction and the future development plan of the center of Islip town.

Currently, the main road is in the north of town, surrounded by shops from both sides facing countryside and the housing area (we do not know whether the shops face the road or countryside.). On the north of this zone is the countryside and on the south is housing. On the eastern side of the housing area, there is the a park area, while the school is located on the south-western side.

The hallmark of the future plan for the development of the town is the construction of dual carriageway around the town with the building of a specific way path for pedestrians only. Another major point is the expansion of housing area by establishment of two new housing places on at the expense of the park area (It seems as if BOTH new housing areas will be developed out of park. Moreover, the park area is planned to be reduced and a new housing area will be developed in that area. Also, the countryside will be replaced with another new housing area, a bus station, shopping centre and car park to serve the city’s expanded needs.). Consequently, more shops and public transport will be required to fulfill the needs of the new inhabitants of the town, so on the northern side of pedestrians’ way, a mall will be constructed with car park and bus station on both sides of the mall. (Shops on the south side of the current main road will be maintained in the future and those on the north side will be replaced with new developments.)

Finally, the school will be in the same place but its area will increase to accept more students. (Please do not mention the reasons for task 1. Avoid your subjectivity. Finally, the school area will be marginally increased as compared to the current area.)

It is clear, that there will be major changes in the town construction in the future to improve the public services.
