In many countries plastic shopping bags are the main source of rubbish, causing pollution on land and in the water, so people think they should be banned. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Answer:
Introduction: (Introduce the topic with a general statement. State your opinion and MENTION the reasons supporting your opinion.)
Plastics are non-biodegradable materials that are used for a variety of applications. Since they do not disintegrate in nature, they are responsible for land and water pollution. I believe the plastic-related pollution can be prevented by banning plastic bags below a particular thickness and recycling relatively thicker plastic bags.
Body Paragraph 1: (Banning Plastic Bags)
Banning plastic bags below a specific thickness is a prudent strategy to prevent pollution of land and water. These bags are so thin that they get easily torn and can not be recycled. Consequently, they are not properly disposed and stay in the local ecosystem for more than 600 years. This often leads to pollution of underground water when rain falls on these bags and absorbs certain plastic material. Moreover, sometimes stray animals consume them and fall sick. This eventually leads to death of these animals and spread of diseases among human population.
Body Paragraph 2: (Recycle)
However, not all plastic bags are non-recyclable. Those above a certain thickness do not tear and are easily visible and, hence, they can be responsibly disposed and recycled. Governments should enforce strict regulations in these cases so that plastics are regularly recycled and do not stay in the ecosystem. In the absence of severe regulation, people will continue to flout the recycling and minimum thickness norms. If these are properly recycled, this will not only reduce the mountain of plastic waste at various dumping grounds but also reduce pollution of river and well as groundwater pollution.
Conclusion: (Conclude the essay with FUTURE.)
In conclusion, though plastic bags are non-biodegradable, we cannot impose a blanket ban on plastic bags of all thickness. If plastic bags below a certain thickness are banned and those above it are recycled, this will result in an environmentally sustainable world while serving the daily needs of humanity.
