IELTS Writing Task 1, Academic Correction: Changes in Average House Prices in Five Different Cities.

The chart below shows information about changes in average house prices in five different cities between 1990 and 2002 compared with the average house prices in 1989.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The given bar chart depicts the percentage change in the average price of houses in New York, Tokyo, London, Madrid and Frankfurt from 1990 to 1995 and 1996 to 2002 compared with average prices in 1989.

Overall, the average price of houses varied largely among all five cities countries. The average  price of houses got down dropped (decreased, fell) in New York, Tokyo and London during 1990 to 1995 while in Madrid and Frankfurt the average price increased. In contrary, during 1996 to 2002 the price of houses increased in all four cities countries except Tokyo compared to the prices of houses in 1989. (The overall as well as body paragraphs are about different charts and none make a comparison of the two given durations.)

On comparing the average value of houses in five different cities from 1990-1995 with 1989 shows that (Once you’ve mentioned 1989 in the introduction, there is no need to repeat it again.) During 1990 to 1995, the monetary value of houses rose slightly in Madrid and Frankfurt by about 2-3% 2 and 3 percent respectively while the prices in New York dropped by around 5 percent and Tokyo and London by approximately 8 percent. (You’ve just mentioned the numbers, not maximum and minimum.)

During the period of 1996-2002 1996 to 2002, the  house price in all cities scaled up except Tokyo in Japan which experienced a 5 percent reduction in house prices compared with house prices in 1989 (misreading of data and wrong comparison) 1981. The average house price in New York increased by around 5 percent, Madrid by 4 percent and London with considerably by more than 11 percent which is the largest property price hike compared to their prices in 1989. Frankfurt only experienced a negligible increase in their its house price during this period.
