Some people believe that modern technologies such as computers, robotics, and artificial intelligence have increased the gap between rich and poor since companies use them to manufacture goods rather than employing humans. Others think the opposite as they generate new avenues for employment. I agree with the latter opinion.

Body Paragraph 1: (EXPLAIN the reason supporting view 1)

A large number of manufacturing companies are gradually shifting from hiring human labor for the production of various items to machines. They claim that the machines are not only more accurate in repetitive tasks but also cost less in the long run. Thus, while a large number of humans are losing menial jobs that support their families, investors and management are getting rich by cutting cost. For example, in 2008 Nokia upgraded its plant in Sweden using robotics to manufacture smartphones. This has resulted in the loss of more than 30,000 jobs and generated unprecedented profits for the company in 2017.

Body Paragraph 2: (EXPLAIN the reason supporting view 2)

On the other hand, these technologies are creating unprecedented job opportunities for the workers. A worker can learn computer technology and expect a much higher salary than before. This narrows the gap between rich investors and poor workers. For instance, Suzuki motor company recently retrenched more than a thousand workers and retrained them in operating automated systems such as robotic arms and computer software. The company then absorbed most of these workers and helped others in finding suitable employment at more than 150 percent of the previous salary.

Conclusion: (Give your opinion by comparing the two ideas)

In conclusion, though modern technologies have led to job losses in various parts of the world, I strongly believe that they offer more opportunities to bridge the rich-poor divide than threats. If employees are suitably trained in these technologies, this will unlock the doors to a higher salary.
