– Who is he/she?
– Why is he/she popular?
– How did you know about him/her?

Invest one minute in brainstorming about this topic’s questions. If you’ve not read my advice on developing each answer in a proper way, please read the lesson on speaking.

PLUS, you can implement the idea of collocations in this answer. Here is the link to a truly useful article: Lessons in speaking – collocations.

Please read the cue card on “Comic Character You Like” as well.

Well, I will create a structure for you to follow and a response following that structure. Since each country’s actors and actresses are unique, you need to create your own response. However, you can follow the general points given below.

Who is he/she:

Do not just name the person. That will be a mechanical or bland response and as discussed in this lesson on speaking, you will not get good bands for simply naming the person. Create a context, a story. For instance:

Well, I love watching comedy movies and there are many famous comedy actors and actresses such as A and B in my country. However, my favorite is C who has acted in more than a hundred movies.

Why is he/she popular:

Again, you need to create a proper context (story) to make your response more human and less mechanical. Note that the person can be popular for several reasons. Whenever something can have more than one responses, it is better to give an organized response. That is, create a structure (see underlined words below) that the examiner can see.

Mr. C is popular for several reasons. Firstly, he has a great timing to make apt remarks that make people laugh. There are other actors who do comedy, but their timing is not accurate (explain the first reason completely before moving to the second one). Secondly, he never makes jokes that offend anyone. I’ve never heard him making sexist, religious, racist or castist remarks. He makes jokes that everyone can share.

How did you know about him/her:

As I’ve explained above, do not give a mechanical response. You need to make the response human by giving a context.

I first heard of him in 2005 when I was 10 years old and my dad took me to a theatre to watch his movie. It was an excellent movie for children and every child enjoyed his jokes. Since then I’ve been watching his movies regularly.
