Introduction: (Introduce the topic with a general statement and STATE your opinion along with the reasons supporting it.)

Both parents and teachers play an instrumental role in shaping the academic and social development of a child. I believe that when children begin going to school, teachers play a more important role than parents because they spend most of their time in school and parents rarely have time to teach them.

Body Paragraph 1: (Explain reason 1 – spend time in school)

Children spend most of their productive day at school and this allows teachers to have a huge influence on their behavior and academics. In Canada, they are in school from 7 am to 2 pm and during this time teachers educate them about various subjects such as history and science. Moreover, it is the duty of the teachers to educate them about interacting with their peer group and elders. This forms the core of their social skills. For example, children in India study six academic subjects every day during school and there are separate periods reserved for sports, music, and dance which form the base of their social education. After reaching home, most of these kids either sleep or watch television and, hence, parents rarely play an important role in their education.

Body Paragraph 2: (Explain reason 2 – parents rarely teach)

Moreover, parents lack the skills to teach them various subjects and social interaction. Both mother and father are engaged in their work from morning till evening and do not have time to teach subjects. Even if they have time, they lack knowledge of the mathematics, languages, and science. Also, they can not teach social skills to the children since the proper setting to learn this is a classroom where a child can interact with the peer group. Teachers have the skills and locational advantage to teach behavior.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, though parents can play some role in a child’s academic and social development, they are not as proficient as teachers.
