IELTS General Task 1 Correction: Lost An Item On Train.

You have lost an item of value on a train. Write to a railway company. In your letter:

Describe the item

Explain where and where you left it

Say what action you would like the company to take.

20 minutes, 150 words at least.

Answer:

Dear sir/madam,

I am writing this letter to inform you that I have lost my bag in one of your trains.

The introduction can be improved and made more interactive without losing formality. MENTION (not explain) answers to question 1 and question 2 in the introduction (underlined below):

I use your trains to regularly commute for my work. (I am writing this letter to inform you that) Last week, while traveling to my office, I lost my Gucci bag on one of your trains.

It is a black, leather bag and its brand name ‘Gucci’ is inscribed on the front. It contained my credentials, employee id, license, and some work-related document. I need this bag urgently because of important documents and employee id without which without these (cohesion – referencing) documents I cannot go to my office.

Yesterday, I was traveling from Saket to New Delhi Metro Station at around 2.30 pm, when I forgot to collect pick it and left/ exited the train. I was in second compartment in moving direction and must have placed it under a seat.

I would be grateful if you can find (locate/ trace) and send it to the address mentioned on the employee card. I will take care of (foot the bill) all delivery expenses. Please contact me at 97622323, in case you need further information.

I hope that you would look into this matter at the earliest.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Yours faithfully,

William Smith.
