Governments are spending money on the restoration of the old building throughout the world. It would be more beneficial to spend money on housing and road development instead of restoration. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Answer:
Introduction: (Introduce the topic with a general statement. STATE your opinion and MENTION the reasons in support of your opinion.)
Governments in different parts of the world are spending huge resources in the restoration of heritage buildings. I think this is an important investment since these buildings earn revenue from tourism and they are important for our culture.
Body Paragraph 1: (EXPLAIN reason 1 – Tourism. Keep the context of housing and road development in perspective)
Heritage structures are an important source of revenue through tourism. All countries ranging from the United States and France to India and Bhutan depend on them for supporting the local population. For example, the Taj Mahal, a historic structure in Agra, supports the economy of the entire city. It is also a significant source of tax revenue for the local administration. Though road and house development are important, I think the governments should invest money in maintaining these structures.
Body Paragraph 2: (EXPLAIN reason 2 – Culture. Keep the context of housing and road development in perspective)
Moreover, these buildings are not merely civil structures. They contain the history and culture of a community and, thus, form the core of its identity. For example, the Al-Aqsa mosque in Palestine is the holiest building for all Muslims. Similarly, the Western Wall is greatly revered by the Jews. These structures must be maintained as they bind people in one bond and form an important part of their identity. Without Harmandir Sahib, the seat of Sikh Gurus, or Vatican Church, the residence of the Pope, millions of Sikhs and Christians will lose their identity. On the other hand, if less money is allocated to the road development, people will still be able to drive to their destination.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, I strongly believe that though the road and hose development is important, the governments should allocate funds for the maintenance and restoration of old buildings. They help in maintaining social cohesion and cultural identity.

Distribution of money from local budgets has always been a complicated task. Some people argue that funds should be allocated for the improvement of accommodation and roads rather than for the refurbishment of old buildings. I totally incline to this opinion as although renovation may have some positive impact on tourism, decent living conditions and safe transportation are more important.
It is certainly true that the appearance of a building is one of the factors for attracting tourists. People go to different parts of the world to see beauty of historical buildings, such as Taj Mahal or Louvre, which have managed to stand the test of time. So, if the building looks attractive, it would attract more visitors. However, an entrance fee is charged in most of these places thus enabling to cover the cost of the restoration, whereas public money might be spent on such areas as housing and roads which do not have their own sources of income.
As a result of urbanization people suffer from the lack of proper accommodation. Increased population has influenced the prices on the real estate market preventing people from renting or purchasing housing due to high, at times outrageous, prices. As a result, some people are forced to live in poor conditions which cannot satisfy their basic needs. Overpopulation has also affected the road system. Almost every day new cars are joining the traffic which leads to damages of the road surface and formation of potholes. As a consequence, a number of road accidents, which occur due to these defects, are alarming. Therefore, it would be more sensible to spend money on construction of the new buildings and enhancing roads.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that though financing of the building restoration is important, the governments should spend more money on new houses and roads as such expenses are more justifiable.

Personally, I don’t know that many cultural places to write about. I always wonder how much time or how broad knowledge a person should have to write something like this essay?
