IELTS Cue Card, December 2018: Place You Visited Through Public Transport.

Describe a place you have visited and you traveled by public transport. Please say

– What and where is this place?
– Who did you go there with?
– Did you like the experience?

Answer:

I am an extrovert person and I love traveling to new places. I usually prefer public transport instead of my vehicle since it offers an opportunity to meet with other visitors and share experiences with them. (Introduction)

Last month, I visited New Delhi, the capital of India, with three of my closest friends. All of us had been planning to visit this marvelous city for the past few months. However, due to business compulsions, we could not materialize the trip. (What, Where and with Whom)

I loved every moment we spent in this city. We visited a number of historical places such as Red Fort and Qutub Minar. While the President of India lives in the former, the latter is a structural marvel. We also visited several famous eateries in this historic city. There were foods ranging from Mughal and Punjabi to Bengali and Malayali. Since we were new to the city, we opted for the Delhi Metro and local buses to reach these places. During the journey through public transport, we interacted with the locals and learned about these wonderful places in this city. It was an enjoyable and learning experience. (Did you like?)

Followup Questions:

– How popular is public transport in your city? Well, I live in Ottawa, the capital of Canada, and public transport is the most commonly used mode of transport. We have more than one hundred OC Transpo buses that serve this city. Also, there is an upcoming metro that will further decongest the city.
– What are the advantages and disadvantages of using it? The greatest advantage is that public transport prevents congestion on a city’s roads. The greatest disadvantage is that it takes a long route to reach the destination. If I can travel to a destination in just 10 minutes by car, the OC Transpo buses take more than 1 hour.
– How can these problems be solved? I think the upcoming metro will solve the problem of delays in travel.
