Anthropogenic activities emit more than 100 million tons of greenhouse gases, which absorb sun’s heat, into earth’s atmosphere. We treat our atmosphere the way we treat our oceans, a dumping ground for our untreated waste.

The greatest man-made catastrophe is that of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima. Imagine the heat generated by more than 400,000 such explosions in a single day. Human emissions of greenhouse gases are absorbing that much heat every day. Such a huge amount of heat is evaporating a large amount of water vapor from oceans, rivers, and ponds leading to droughts at some places and floods at others.

Fortunately, it’s not too late. With a sharply declining cost of renewable energy, increasing energy efficiency and evolution of sustainable agriculture, humans have the potential to create a low-carbon, sustainable future.

Buy Time with Money PTE Speaking .jpg

I hate household chores such as cleaning the bathroom. It’s a wastage of my precious time that I could have used in doing something constructive. However, there is a solution. According to a recent science journal article, people can buy happiness by paying someone to do undesirable household activities.

“People are feeling busier today than in the past,” says the author of the article. Though they are earning more, they have little time for household activities. The solution is simple: trade-off some extra money for buying home services.

The researchers studied how a sample of more than 6,000 Americans, Canadians, Danes, and Dutch people used their extra income. They proved that by spending the money we can determine how we spend our time. We can purchase our way out of undesirable experiences in our day-to-day lives and the positive impact of such actions goes beyond the money spent.

PTE Speaking with Audio: Read Aloud – School Education

schooleducation

Question: Read this text aloud as naturally and as clearly as possible.

The foundation of a successful life, both socially and economically, is built during school years. In school children not only learn subjects but also interact with the peer group. This not only builds knowledge base but also the ability and confidence to express themselves. For these reasons, I believe school education should be compulsory for every child.

Educating children on diverse subjects is important to make them informed and better citizens. Learning the history of a country helps them understand the innumerable sacrifices various individuals made to build their country. For instance, learning South African history helps young generation understand and recognize how their country is built upon the foundation of sacrifices that won independence but also ended exploitative apartheid system.

Similarly, a deeper understanding of sciences and mathematics enables them to comprehend the rapidly evolving world of modern technology. This also gives them the power to make calculated decisions in the world of business. Moreover, subjects such as geography increase their understanding of their country’s landscape and its people.

PTE Speaking with Audio: Read Aloud – Big Mines, Big Trucks, Big Problems.

mining-e1456952189690

Question: Read this text aloud as naturally and as clearly as possible.

Big Mines, Big Trucks, Big Problems

Imagine you’re standing in a sprawling open pit mine. It’s in the middle of nowhere, two miles across, one mile deep, and specked with 45 gigantic autonomous trucks hauling iron ore out of the pit. Each wheel on those trucks towers over a person standing on the ground, and each pair of tires costs $100,000.

These lumbering vehicles operate under extreme loads and in extreme conditions, and it’s critical to keep them operating productively every single day. You need to anticipate problems so you can fix them before they breakdown, but how? You’re miles from anywhere.

Rio Tinto faces this scenario every day. The global mining operation, headquartered in London and with major operations in Australia and elsewhere, has the largest fleet of giant autonomous trucks in the world.

Its vehicles have transported more than 200 million tons of materials across approximately 3.9 million kilometers. That’s the equivalent of hauling approximately 3,500 Sydney Harbor Bridges or 540 Empire State Buildings to the moon and back five times.

sick-building-syndrome.jpg.pagespeed.ce.3YAmvTVTFL

Question: Read this text aloud as naturally and as clearly as possible.

Individually, the symptoms barely seemed worth mentioning. A runny nose here, a rash there. It could have been allergies or a lingering cold. Until one person started complaining, then another. Many felt a little dizzy. It had been going on for months.

“Sick building syndrome” floated uneasily into America’s late-1970s news cycle. The Environmental Protection Agency would later define it as a “situation in which building occupants experience acute health and comfort effects that appear to be linked to time spent in a building, but no specific illness or cause can be identified.” No one even knew whether it was a real illness. But a couple things were clear: It was occurring in newer office buildings, among mostly women.
