IELTS G.T Task 1: Letter to Delivery Goods Company.

goods delivery IELTS PTE.jpg

Write a letter to a company manager with whom you arranged a delivery of goods and say

– Inform him/her what items you have purchased that were supposed to be delivered.
– What issues did you face with the delivery service?
– Suggest what can be done about the matter.

20 minutes, 150 words at least.

Answer:

Dear Manager,

I am a regular customer of your company and I am writing this letter to complain about an inordinate delay in delivery of goods.

Last month I purchased an Apple laptop and ordered a courier to my brother as a surprise gift for his twentieth birthday. The laptop was supposed to be delivered at his Chennai home a week ago. However, my brother is yet to receive it. When I called your customer care centre to inquire about the reasons for the delay, your staff informed me that the item was yet to be dispatched. Moreover, the staff member did not even apologise for the company’s negligence.

This is one of the poorest services I have ever received from your company. Though the gift has lost the element of a ‘surprise gift’, I request you to dispatch it as soon as possible. Please note that my brother is leaving for the United States in a fortnight. Kindly ensure that the product safely reaches him in time.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

ABC.

Apply for a volunteering work for a sporting event that is going to be held in your city next month. In your letter say

– Why are you interested in this work?
– How could you help during the event?
– Suggest an improvement in some area of the event.

20 minutes, 150 words.

Answer:

Please go through a similar G.T. Task 1 question asked in August 2017 IELTS Exam: Advertisement Recruiting Volunteers.

Dear ……..,

I read your advertisement about recruiting volunteers for the upcoming Australia Open Tennis Tournament to be held next month in Sydney. I wish to participate in the event since I have been playing professional tennis since five years of age.

During my tennis career, I have volunteered for several local, provincial, national and international tennis tournaments ranging from the Sydney Tennis Club matches to Australia Open in 2016. I have carried out activities such as managing the crowd at these events and ensuring adequate facilities for the players. Consequently, I have enough experience not only in actual volunteering work but also in training other volunteers.

Using my experience of the past events I suggest the organizers of this year’s event must pay greater attention to residential facilities for the international players. Last year the players informally complained about non-functioning airconditioners and inadequate water for morning ablutions.

I look forward to participating and offering my valuable services in this event.

Coal: Energy consumption has increased steadily since 1980 and is expected to reach 30 quadrillion units in 2030 becoming the second largest source of energy.

Nuclear, Solar/ Wind, Hydropower: Energy consumption was almost similar for these three sources in 1980. Energy utilization has increased marginally since then. While energy use from solar and wind power has stayed at the same level and is estimated to rise insignificantly in the future. Hotel IELTS PTE.jpg

You recently stayed at a hotel and had a problem there. Write an email to the manager and describe how the receptionist helped to fix the problem quickly. Include the following in your letter:

– When and where did you stay?
– What was the problem?
– How did the receptionist help you?

20 minutes, 150 words at least.

Answer:

Dear Manager,

I recently stayed at your hotel in the New York City. Though the stay was pleasant, your staff, unexpectedly, lost my luggage during transit from the reception to the room on the fifth floor. Perhaps they sent it to the wrong room and could not locate it for a long time. (When and Where + Problem)

Since I was in the city for an international conference which was about to begin within one hour of my arrival at your hotel, I was getting anxious. The luggage contained my dress for the seminar. Thankfully, I didn’t put my notes and laptop in the luggage. (Problem)

As I approached the reception to find a solution, the staff jumped into action and Ms. Barnes, one of the receptionist, quickly arranged a suit at the hotel’s expense from a nearby showroom. The suit fit me perfectly and the conference went smoothly. By the time I returned, the luggage was in my room. I thank Ms. Barnes and your hotel’s responsible behavior for saving my day. (How receptionist helped)

Sincerely.

IELTS Task 1 Academic: Recycling Aluminum Cans.

The flow chart below shows the process of recycling aluminum cans.

Write a report describing the information shown below.

Screen Shot 2017-08-29 at 11.34.16 AM.png

20 minutes, 150 words at least.

Answer:

The given flow chart presents the cycle of recycling used aluminum cans to produce new cans.

Firstly, the garbage collectors gather the used empty beverage cans from schools, homes, and parks, and transport them to the scrap dealers and recycling centers. These cans are then crushed and flattened to create bales, which are further crushed to small aluminum chips.

Afterward, the chips are fed into a furnace and heated at a mild temperature to remove paints and coatings. The aluminum without any paint or coating is then heated at 350 degree Celsius and the molten metal is cast into the ingots for appropriate shape. These are then hot and cold rolled in a sheet compressor and roller to manufacture thin aluminum sheets.

The aluminum sheets are finally cut and molded into new aluminum cans. These cans are then used and again collected by garbage collectors.

  1. Introduce yourself and your family, and give your social background.
  2. Reasons why you feel it is essential
  3. Special precautions you’ll take to avoid the weapon’s misuse.

Last week, we also received a letter threatening dire consequences if we did not pay money to a certain gang. I have attached a copy of the letter. I trust that police department acts rapidly in such cases, however, time is of essence when a thief strikes.

My family and I are responsible residents of the area and have always followed the law. I will keep the weapon either in my personal possession or in a secured locker where no other individual, including my family members, can access it.

Screen Shot 2017-08-05 at 8.45.44 PM

20 minutes, 150 words at least.

Answer:

The given pie charts present information about the share of various Internet browsers in the web search market in years 2001 and 2010. (Introductory sentence)

(We can clearly structure the answer into years. Write one paragraph on 2001 only and another on changes that took place by 2010.)

In 2001, the Internet Explorer dominated the market with 73.6 percent share. The distant second runner was the Firefox with just 22.3 percent stake. Opera’s share was only 2.1 percent while that of Chrome was 1 percent. Safari and others were insignificant. (2001 only)

The scenario changed drastically during the next decade. Internet Explorer was no longer the biggest player. With about 38 percent stake, Firefox had the largest market share. It was closely followed by the Internet Explorer. Chrome was the biggest gainer since it increased its market share fifteen times from just 1 percent in 2001 to 15.5 percent in 2010. Opera and Safari also gained market share, and they stood at 4.2 and 4.9 percent respectively. (Changes in 2010)

In nutshell, the Internet Explorer was the only browser that lost market share during this decade and every other browser gained.

Answer:

The given maps present changes in Lakeside landscape from 2000 to 2009.

Structuring this answer requires understanding that the diagram presents three different things. 1. Some things remained unchanged; 2. Others were expanded/ contracted; 3. Still others were replaced.

During these nine years, the residential area in the northwest and the school in the center were maintained. The river continued to divide the residential and commercial parts of the region from the industrial complex. (Unchanged)

The industrial complex was expanded and was completely separated from any residential area. The lake, which was the source of the river, shrunk during this period into a pond. (Expanded/Contracted)

While the derelict warehouse in the north was replaced by a car parking, offices and a university stood in place of the old town. A cinema was constructed in the west replacing the art center and the residential center south of the art center was razed to make way for a shopping complex. Moreover, the residential complex at the southern extreme of the lakeside was removed such that the industrial complex was completely isolated from any commercial or residential activity. (Replaced)

IELTS GT Task 1 July 2017: Letter to Local Council.

tourist facilities IELTS PTE.jpg

Write a letter to your local council about the improvement of tourist facilities in your area. Include the following in your letter:

– What are the current tourist facilities in your area?
– What are the benefits tourism brings to the local community?
– Suggest improvements that need to be done, in your opinion.

20 minutes, 150 words.

Dear Council Members,

I am writing this letter to raise the issue of lack of adequate facilities for tourists during peak season in our city. Undoubtedly, our region’s economy is dependent on tourism. Every year more than 100,000 tourists flock our city’s historical sites, pristine mangroves, and beautiful beaches. However, we have not invested enough in our tourism infrastructure.

We suffer from lack of trained guides to inform tourists about the history and geography, including flora and fauna, of our region. Many guides are untrained local youth who have little idea about our city. Moreover, there are only a few dozen boats to take tourists into the mangroves. This often leads to long queues, and some visitors have to wait for hours before venturing into the mesmerizing world of mangroves. Furthermore, we have a far lesser number of lifeguards as compared to other beaches competing with us. (Current tourist facilities)

Tourism not only supports the local economy in terms of employment, but also it is a major source of tax revenue for the council. The user fee collected at various places helps us maintain the historical sites and keep our beaches clean. (Benefits for local community)

By training local youth in history and geography of our area we will create more than a few hundred jobs and fill the gap in the market. Adding at least a hundred boats and lifeguards will increase satisfaction rate of the visitors and, again, generate employment. This will be a win-win situation for everyone. (Improvements needed to be done)

Note: Improvements needed are derived from current local facilities. Thus, planning local facilities before writing the answer is central to your strategy of scoring 7+ bands.

Clearly, the largest number of graduate students opted for further study. More than 17000 graduates were engaged in part-time work. While 16235 graduates were unemployed and were not engaged in any activity, only 3500 were doing voluntary work. (Graduates Only)

On the other hand, the largest number of post-graduate students opted for further study. Those engaged in part-time work numbered 2535 and 1625 were unemployed. Only 345 were doing voluntary work. (Post-Graduates Only)

Evidently, though the number of students in both bar charts is different, the trend is same. The largest number of students in both charts opted for further study followed by part-time work. These were followed by those who were unemployed and finally those who were engaged in voluntary work. (Comparison of both charts)

IELTS GT Task 1 July 2017: Friend Staying at Your Home.

Friend staying at your home IELTS PTE

You will be going to out of town soon. Your friend will stay at your home in your absence. Write a letter to your friend and say

– When and where are you going?
– Give some instructions related to the use of home equipment.
– Suggest some local attraction and places to visit.

20 minutes, 150 words at least.

Answer:

Dear Ana,

Thank you for agreeing to stay at my home in Ottawa during my trip to Japan next week for the International Science Conference at Kyoto. Allow me to give you a few instructions on managing home equipment in my absence.

All food-related equipment can be easily located in the kitchen, except barbecue, which is in the backyard. You will find the oven in the extreme right corner of the kitchen. You can cook delicious pizzas just by switching on the green button. The washing machine and dryer are in the basement. The heat in the dryer is set for cotton clothes. Please make necessary adjustments to suit your needs.

During winters, the main attraction in Ottawa is the Rideau canal which is frozen, and people use it for skiing. You can visit the Parliament building and watch a beautiful laser show in the evening explaining the history of Canada. Moreover, you must visit the world war museum that shows all the military equipment Canadian military used during the first half of twentieth-century.

I am sure you will enjoy this week long stay in the capital of Canada.

Your friend,

ABC.
