Advertisement Children IELTS PTE.jpg

These days many advertisements are aimed at children. What effect do you think they have? Should advertising to children be more controlled and regulated?

IELTS: 40minutes, 250 words at least.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

Answer:

Introduction: (Introduce the topic and MENTION the effects on children. EXPLAIN these effects in the body paragraphs.)

Advertisements are usually aimed at informing us about a product or service. However, many advertisements use attractive items to influence the tender minds of children. This adversely affects their mindset not only by increasing unnecessary desires but also by diverting their attention from education and sports(46 words.)

Body Paragraph 1: (Reasons 1 and 2)

Advertisements on television and various social media flash new products that aim at making children commercial consumers. Consequently, many children demand new and costly branded dresses, jewelry, and smart-phones. This often leads to unnecessary demands and diverts their attention from productive activities such as sports. In several cases, children tend to focus more on the advertised products rather than on education. This compromises their career and prospects of a future success. For instance, a recent study by the Ministry of Culture and the Human Resource Department of India revealed that the cognitive ability of children these days has fallen by 20 percent as compared to the previous generation due to increase in consumerism. (113 words.)

Body Paragraph 2: (Advertisement – Controlled and Regulated.)

Advertisements aimed at targeting children must be regulated since children can not make informed and objective decisions. The Censor Board of India, for example, studies all television media, including advertisements, to judge their suitability for various audiences. It also studies advertisements to suit the requirements of children. Such regulation protects the rights of children from the onslaught of consumerism. (58 words.)

Conclusion: (Conclude the essay with FUTURE and IMPACT)

In conclusion, protecting children from commercial advertisements that create unnecessary demands not only helps children become more successful in the future but also prevents unnecessary expenses which makes them economically stable. (31 words.)

Sports Lessons IELTS PTE

Many people believe sports lessons are important in the school timetable. Both boys and girls should take part in sports. Do you agree or disagree with the statement? Give your opinion and include relevant examples from your own experience.

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

Answer:

Introduction: (Introduce the topic and state your opinion and MENTION the reasons supporting your opinion. EXPLAIN these reasons with examples in the body paragraph.)

Physical activities play an instrumental role in the overall development of a child. I strongly believe that all students, irrespective of gender, should participate in sports not only because it provides the much-needed break from classroom study and increases focus but also because it makes a child physically strong(50 words.)

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1 – break and focus)

Psychologists have proven that sports and physical activity tend to break the monotony of studies and rejuvenate kids for further education. An hour of sports during the middle of the day, for instance, increases a child’s ability on concentrate on studies by at least 50 percent. If students are devoid of such activities, though they invest more time in studying various subjects, they tend to grasp and score less than students who play sports intermittently. (75 words.)

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2 – physically strong)

Moreover, the purpose of a school education is not only to teach certain subjects to students but also to promote their overall development. Along with an informed and knowledgeable mind, students need a strong body so that they can carry -out daily tasks effectively and efficiently. An industry report has recently confirmed that physically strong employees are able to work for longer hours without any distraction of body pain. Consequently, various companies prefer hiring people who indulge in sports. To make today’s children better employees in the future, schools need to inculcate the habit of playing sports. (96 words.)

Conclusion: (Conclude the essay with FUTURE and IMPACT)

In conclusion, if we want a society with robust and responsible citizens who can make better decisions and contribute to economic development, schools will have to invest in sports infrastructure and motivate all students to participate in one physical activity or another. This will make our society stronger and sustainable. (50 words.)

IELTS/ PTE Essay: Parenting Training Course.

training IELTS PTE.jpg

Parents have a greater influence on their children’s future success than schools do. Governments should, therefore, provide ”parenting training courses” rather than ”teacher training courses”. Do you agree with this idea?

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

Answer:

Introduction: (Introduce the topic while giving your opinion. MENTION the reasons supporting your opinion and EXPLAIN them in the body paragraphs.)

A child’s cognitive development depends on the social environment that includes both home and school. However, the child learns more from parents than from teachers. Governments should focus more on parenting training courses since home’s atmosphere lays the foundation of a child’s career while not losing focus on teacher-training courses because schools reinforce the home’s learnings(56 words.)

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1: foundation)

An infant receives life’s first lessons from his parents and gets influenced by the family atmosphere till adulthood. The parents’ behavior at home and outside along with their habits make an indelible mark on a child’s psyche and lay the foundation for entire life. For instance, studies have proved that children of alcoholic parents indulge in substance abuse during teenage and adulthood. Similarly, kids of parents who read books tend to read books. Consequently, governments must invest in parenting training courses so that the parents understand how to behave and act in front of a child. (96 words.)

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2: Schools’ reinforce)

However, governments can’t neglect teacher training programs since children learn a lot at schools. While the foundation of a child’s future success is built at home, school reinforces the learning with proper education and socialization. Undoubtedly, teachers, as well as the peer group, influences a child’s cognitive development through education as well as personal interaction. A recent British study of prosperous people has revealed that most of them had parents who were educated as well as successful and schools which were reputed and whose teachers were qualified. (87 words.)

Conclusion: (Conclude the essay with FUTURE and/or IMPACT.)

In conclusion, if governments pursue both teacher training and parental training seriously, the future generation will not only develop a strong foundation but also gain meaningful skills. This will make a country economically stable and socially sustainable. (37 words.)

IELTS Writing Task 2 (September 2017): Friends Through Social Media.

friends social media IELTS PTE.jpg

Many people make friends through social sites and chat rooms. Others believe that it is not a good idea to make friends without meeting them face to face. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give your own opinion and relevant examples.

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

Answer:

Instead of writing an answer, let me present a structure and help you write better.

Introduction: The question statement presents two views. Since you’re supposed to write 40 to 50 words in the introduction (2 sentences), I’ll suggest writing an introductory sentence on friendship and/ or social media and the second sentence on your opinion (agree or disagree). Do not forget to mention the reasons supporting your opinion. Explain these in the body paragraphs.

Sample introduction:

“With the advancement of technologies such as smartphones and the Internet, people spend a lot of time on social media. Though some people believe in making friends only after a personal interaction, I strongly support the idea of making friends online since it is not only more convenient but also helps develop friendships with people from diverse backgrounds.” (58 words.)

Body Paragraph 2: Use this paragraph to EXPLAIN the reason 1 (Convenient) and try writing an example. Please write about 70 to 90 words – 4 to 5 sentences.

Body Paragraph 3: Use this paragraph to EXPLAIN the reason 2 (people from diverse backgrounds) along with an example. Please write about 70 to 90 words – 4 to 5 sentences.

Conclusion: Finally, it is time to write a powerful and scoring conclusion. Please make sure that the conclusion is not the same as an introduction. While the introduction is meant to convey the ideas that will be discussed in the body paragraphs, the conclusion is used to express ideas for the FUTURE. Conclusion, thus, goes beyond the essay topic. Please write a conclusion in about 40 to 50 words – 2 sentences.

Sample Conclusion:

“In conclusion, making friends on social media is an excellent way to network and gain insights about various cultures and countries. It is a convenient way to resolve international and inter-cultural conflicts, and create a sustainable society.” (37 words.)

PTE Essay: Travel Necessary to Learn About Other Nations

travel ielts pte

Some people think that travel is necessary to learn about other nations. Others, however, think that TV and the Internet are the best ways to learn about other countries. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

20 minutes, 200 to 300 words at least.

Answer:

Please go through a similar essay for the PTE Exam.

Introduction: (Introduce the topic and MENTION reasons supporting both opinions. EXPLAIN these reasons in the body paragraphs.)

In a globalized world, we cannot survive without learning about other countries, and about international political and economic developments. Watching the television and surfing the Internet help us learn about global developments from experienced reporters and field experts. However, travel is a better way to learn since it offers a first-hand experience and helps in networking.

Body Paragraph 1: (Reasons supporting television and the Internet)

Global news networks such as the B.B.C and Al Jazeera along with newspapers and magazines such as the Economist and the New York Times have a team of professional journalists who offer deeply researched insights on different countries. Reading detailed reports from these networks on the Internet gives an individual an idea of events, ranging from business to politics, in various countries. Moreover, these sources broadcast any new information or news as soon as it is generated. Hence, it keeps us informed with the latest content.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reasons supporting travel)

However, the Internet and television fail to provide the first-hand experience that helps in a person’s learning and growth. Travel, on the other hand, enables an individual to absorb various global events using all sensory perceptions. A person not only sees the prevailing conditions with his own eyes but also listens to the first-hand accounts of the people. Thus, travel helps build a personal as well as professional network that television and the Internet cannot. Furthermore, without traveling in a country, a person cannot understand the local culture and traditions which are vital in the modern business environment, For instance, famous international investors such as Jim Rogers prefer visiting various countries such as India, China, and Russia before making investment decisions.

Conclusion: (Conclude the essay with elements of FUTURE and IMPACT)

In conclusion, while travel offers a better learning experience, it is painfully slow. On the other hand, television and the Internet offer immediate information without the benefit of depth of learning. To learn about other countries, a person should prefer an optimum mixture of both channels.

PTE Essay (IELTS task 2): Researching Family’s History.

Family History IELTS PTE.jpg

In some parts of the world, it is becoming popular to research the history of one’s own family. Why do people want to do this? Is it a positive or negative development?

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

Answer:

For a change, I will not write an answer but give a suitable structure along with an explanation. Firstly, IELTS is an English language test. Do not make your essay technically strong. You will be awarded bands for better expression rather than technicalities.

Firstly introduce the topic with a 40 to 50 words introduction. Do not forget to mention the reasons why people search their history. Give two reasons that you’ll explain in the body paragraphs. Let me give a sample introduction:

“History of a family is a record of the family tree extending back to several generations. People in various countries prefer researching their family background since it helps in preventing many genetic diseases and scientifically denounces the idea of racism.”

The body paragraphs should explain the above-mentioned points in greater detail.

Body Paragraph 1: Genetic diseases + example. (About 50 words)

Body Paragraph 2: Idea of racism (Similarity among all humans) + example. (About 50 words)

Body Paragraph 3: Advantages and disadvantages. (70 words)

Conclusion, as I have mentioned in several previous essays, should contain the elements of FUTURE + IMPACT. Try to keep it as positive/ optimistic as possible. For instance:

“In conclusion, developing a family tree depicting the history of a person’s family promotes the feeling of unity among people and prevents many diseases. This helps in making a community socially more stable and sustainable while promoting the ideals of unity in diversity.”

IELTS Task 2, PTE Essay: Computers Replacing People

computer IELTS PTE

As the world becomes technologically advanced, computers are replacing people at more and more jobs. What are some job positions that may be lost because of computers? What are some problems that may result from this situation? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

40 minutes, 250 words at least

Answer:

Three students’ essays (with corrections) on this topic: Answer 1; Answer 2; Answer 3.

Introduction: (Introduce the topic. MENTION jobs lost and resulting problems. EXPLAIN in the body paragraphs.)

Technological advancements change the way people work and this leads to the decline of existing jobs and emergence of new jobs. The advent of computers has led to the elimination of several jobs ranging from bank clerks and cashiers to assembly-line workers.   Workers often face the problem in learning new skills, and this leads to unequal distribution of wealth.

Body Paragraph 1: (EXPLAIN the jobs lost)

Automation of activities is beneficial in increasing productivity. However, this is done at the expense of existing workforce. Assembly-line automation using computers in automobile manufacturing, for instance, has eliminated millions of assembly-line workers’ jobs across the world. Similarly, the computers are eliminating the need for teachers to check exams. Computer-based smart classes and artificial intelligence based learning systems have already left many school and university teachers jobless.

Body Paragraph 2: (EXPLAIN the problems)

Clearly, this is causing several problems. The existing workers are trained for their jobs and when computers eliminate the need for these jobs, the workers go jobless and the survival of entire families is at stake. Moreover, the use of computers leads to concentration of wealth in the hands of a few. While workers are left jobless and have little money to support their families, computers increase productivity and profits of large corporate houses. This makes a society economically and socially unstable.

Conclusion: (Conclude the essay with FUTURE and IMPACT)

In conclusion, if computer-based automation is widely implemented it will lead to more elimination of jobs causing social and economic disintegration, and class conflicts. While the march of civilization in the form of improvements cannot be stopped, the government must regulate the process to ensure that more jobs are created than destroyed during this process.

IELTS July 2017 Essay (PTE): Violence in video games and television.

violence on television and games IELTS PTE.png

Many parents are unhappy with the amount of violence in video games, television programs, and other leisure activities. How harmful could this be to children? What could be done to solve this problem?

40 minutes, 250 words at least.

Answer:

A similar question was asked in the PTE exam: Violence in movies and on television increases crime.

Introduction: (Introduce the topic, state your OPINION and MENTION the reasons supporting your answer. EXPLAIN the reasons in the body paragraphs. Reserve SOLUTIONS for the penultimate paragraph.)

Media, particularly television, plays an important role in shaping human behavior. Children tend to emulate the television serials and movies they watch. I strongly believe that watching violence on television and games adversely influences many children. This makes them aggressive and psychologically influences them to act illegally.

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1: Aggressive)

Watching bloodshed, brutality, and assault on television negatively impacts the tender minds of children and makes them irritated and hostile. Their behavior towards the peer group and parents becomes extreme, and this severely impacts their ability to perform normal functions such as helping a fellow human. Ultimately, violence prevents them from becoming responsible and law-abiding citizens.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2: Act Illegally)

Watching violence in games and on television makes children believe that carrying out acts of aggression is not only easy but also acceptable to the society. This often motivates them to commit illegal activities such as physically hurt a classmate. These aggressive behaviors slowly strengthen and children carry out more heinous crimes such as grievous physical injury, rape, murder, theft, and drugs.

Body Paragraph 3: (Solutions)

To protect children from violent content on television and video games, parents need to exercise strong control over what children watch. Moreover, government and regulators must ensure that no violence should be broadcast on television during the prime time when all family members, including children, watch television. Also, regulatory oversight should ensure that computer games do not have bloodshed and other aggressive acts.

Conclusion: (Conclude with FUTURE and/or IMPACT)

In conclusion, children are the future of a society and protecting them from any adverse psychological influence is the duty of every individual as well as government. A mentally sound child becomes a responsible and economically productive citizen only if he is protected from physical violence in the media.

IELTS Task 2 (PTE Writing): Health Education and Preventative Measures.

health and preventive care IELTS PTE

“Prevention is better than cure.” Out of a country’s health budget, a large proportion should be diverted from treatment to spending on health education and preventative measures. Do you agree or disagree?

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

Answer:

Please go through a related essay as well: Medical Care and Life Expectancy.

Introduction: (Introduce the topic, state your opinion, MENTION the reasons that you’ll EXPLAIN in the body.)

In an era of escalating medical costs, most of which are borne by the already burdened state exchequer, the issues of health education and prevention of diseases are more important than ever before. I believe that governments should divert a significant proportion of their health budgets to creating awareness on preventative measures since these are not only less costly than curing a disease but also keep people more productive.

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1: less costly)

With a rapid increase in population, deterioration of lifestyle and advancements in medical technology humans can be saved from any life threatening condition. However, the budget deficits of almost all countries have spiked during the past five decades primarily due to increase in the cost of medical care. Reducing the need of such care can significantly curtail the government’s expenditure. For instance, an experiment in the United States revealed that creating awareness through advertisements on benefits of a healthy diet reduced a state’s total health expenditure by more than 20 percent.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2: More productive)

Moreover, health education in community centers and advertising preventative measures such as a healthy diet enable a person to stay productive. Though a person can be cured of a disease in a hospital, that person is never again as productive as he was earlier. On an average, it takes more than a year for a person to gain full health and productivity after an operation. Consequently, it is better to create awareness on benefits of a healthy lifestyle than cure a disease.

Conclusion: (Conclude the topic with FUTURE and IMPACT)

Health education and preventative measures can significantly reduce the budgetary spending, and fix the broken and bloated health care systems of various countries such as the United States. They also have the potential to add economic productivity increasing the wealth of a nation.

IELTS Task 2 (PTE Essay): Workers Should Wear Uniforms.

Workers image IELTS PTE

Some people claim that workers should wear uniforms. Others allege that people should be free in their choice. Discuss both opinions, and give your own opinion.

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

Answer:

Please go through answers of student 1, student 2 and student 3.

Introduction(Introduce the topic while MENTIONING the reasons for each view. Reserve your opinion for the conclusion)

There is a heated debate on whether workers should wear uniforms or not. While supporters of the uniform claim that this increases productivity and team spirit of workers, the opponents believe this not only violates their freedom of choice but also creates a segregation from management leading to social inequality.

Body Paragraph 1(Reason supporting uniforms)

Researchers have proven that workers perform better in an organized atmosphere. A uniform is one of the greatest symbols of such an environment. Workers with uniform see other workers as team members and are more likely to assist each other in completing tasks. On the other hand, employees without a dress code are not only more unorganized in operations but also more individualistic. This hampers individual, team, and organizational productivity.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason opposing uniforms)

On the other hand, many people believe that enforcing a dress code violates the workers’ freedom of choice. Not allowing workers to wear clothes according to their choice unnecessarily shifts focus from work to a dress code. This hampers organizational performance.

Body Paragraph 3: (Reason opposing uniforms)

Moreover, a dress code creates a segregation between management and the workforce. Some people view this as social inequality between the two classes. They believe that this is often the source of economic inequality and worker exploitation. For instance, a dress code in Maruti Suzuki became a source of unity for workers during the 2016 strike against management’s autocratic policies.

Conclusion: (Conclude with your opinion)

Despite strong arguments by proponents of both opinions, I believe that dress codes cannot be implemented without understanding the nature of an activity. While dress codes should be mandatory for construction workers for safety reasons and for store workers to give better service, these are not required in a technology or newspaper business. Judicious implementation of this idea is important to prevent any unnecessary discords.

IELTS Task 2 (PTE Essay): Water in Short Supply.

Water shortage IELTS PTE

Water is in short supply in many countries of the world, but consumption of water by families is increasing. Why is this happening? What can be done to preserve water?

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

Answer:

Introduction: (Introduce the topic and MENTION the reasons why water consumption is increasing. EXPLAIN these reasons in the body paragraph. Reserve solution to the problem for the conclusion.)

Water is a precious natural resource that is getting swiftly depleted due to over consumption by humans. With global human population more nine billion, unprecedented wealth and technological advancements, we are consuming all natural resources rapidly.

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1: human population)

During the past one century, advancements in medical science have reduced the human mortality rate and increased longevity. Consequently, there are more people to consume limited natural resources such as water. The situation is particularly precarious in countries like India where water has become a scarce commodity. Many parts of Rajasthan, a desert state in North India, have witnessed water wars in which people clash over the right to use the scarce natural resource. Similarly, over consumption of water by humans in California has led to a severe water deficit in the state.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2: unprecedented wealth)

Moreover, with increasing prosperity, we take everything for granted. Not only have we allowed criminal wastage of water for gardening and car washing, but also contributed to its deficit through global warming. Over consumption of various products leads to increase in our carbon footprint that increases the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The trapping of heat by these gases accelerates the evaporation of water from lakes and ponds leading to the lesser availability of water for consumption.

Body Paragraph 3: (Measures to preserve)

Preserving water is not only the responsibility of governments but also that of individuals. Everyone must build a rain water harvesting system at home so that rain water is utilized rather than being wasted through drains. Such systems facilitate an increase in ground water level that can be used in the future. Furthermore, recycled water should be used for activities such as gardening. Everyone must be aware of curtailing the use of water in activities such as washing utensils, clothes, and bathing.

Conclusion: (Conclude with future + Impact)

To make our planet sustainable for generations to come, we need to follow these practices of water conservation. Judicious use of this precious and increasingly scarce natural resource is the only way for all life forms to survive on the planet Earth.

PTE Essay (IELTS Task 2): Violence on Television and Movies.

violence on tv and movies IELTS PTE

The violence portrayed on T.V and in the movies leads to an increase in crime in our society. People who watch violent movies are more likely to become criminals. Do you agree or disagree?

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

Answer:

Here is a link to a student’s answer on this topic (with corrections)

Introduction(Introduce the topic along with your OPINION and MENTION the reasons supporting your opinion. EXPLAIN these reasons in body paragraphs)

Media, particularly television, plays an important role in shaping human behavior. We tend to emulate the television serials and movies we watch. I strongly believe that watching violence on television influences many people to commit crimes. Aggression on the screen not only psychologically influences us to act illegally but also glamorizes criminals and creates a perception that one can get away with unlawful activities

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1: Psychological Influence)

Research has proven that movies with extreme violence can negatively shape the tender minds of youngsters and increase their tendency to commit crimes. Children, often boys, easily get influenced from scenes with guns and explosions. This gradually makes them violent towards family and friends, and in extreme aggression and fit of rage, they commit crimes.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2: Glamorise criminals)

Media often glamorizes criminals and create a perception that criminals lead a luxurious life. In a materialistic world where glitter of latest designs and gadgets is unresistible, people tend to commit illegal acts with perception that such actions will make them rich. They fail to understand that this is far from reality.

Body Paragraph 3: (Reason 3: Get away)

Many violent movies also project criminals as winners and the law as a loser. They create an image that a criminal can escape the clutches of law using the power of ill-gotten wealth. People fail to understand that movies are merely a fiction and not the truth. Hollywood movies such as Wolf of the Wall Street tend to strengthen this false perception.

Conclusion: (Conclude with future + impact)

In conclusion, to create a stable and low crime society, media must act responsibly by limiting the extent of violence on television and project criminals as people running from the law. Peace and love in movies help create a healthier society than violence on television.

PTE Essay (IELTS Task 2): Sports and Games Create Disturbance

Sports and games IELTS PTE

Sports and games create disturbance in students’ life because they cannot fully concentrate on their studies. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give suitable examples.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

Answer:

Before I start writing this essay, let me give you a proverb that almost everyone has heard. “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy.” Personally, I am a huge fan of sports and games – both actually playing and watching on the television – and I’ll justify the sports do not hinder a student’s studies. You may choose to support the other side with reasons and examples.

Introduction: (Introduce the topic and state your OPINION. Just MENTION the reasons supporting your opinion. EXPLAIN them with examples in the body paragraph)

I strongly believe in the famous English proverb, “All work and no play made Jack a dull boy.” Though education is important for shaping bright professional careers, sports play a pivotal role in the overall growth of children. While education is a sedentary and individualistic activity, sports not only make a person physically fit but also infuse the quality of team work.

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1 – Physical fitness. Example 1)

Along with mental development, students these days need physical fitness more than ever before. Modern sedentary lifestyle coupled with junk food has led to the emergence of several heart-related diseases among children. Sports promote physical activity among children which not only prevents the occurrence of diseases but also provides a much necessary break from studies. Moreover, as the famous proverb says, “a sound mind is in a sound body”, without a strong body students’ education is incomplete.

Consequently, most schools have introduced physical education as a core curriculum of studies and have made sports mandatory for all students. For instance, schools in India have increased the duration of sports period from the usual 40 minutes to 1 hour. Additional 20 minutes, studies point out, have increased physical fitness of the Indian students.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2 – team work. Example 2)

Sports play an instrumental role in building team spirit among students. While studying is mostly a solo activity, playing games require coordination among various individuals and understanding each other’s strengths and weaknesses to achieve collective goals. Children need these skills to secure a well-paid career in the future.

For instance, several top colleges and universities such as Harvard value a student’s achievements in sports as much as grades in school because sports help build the quality of team work that education cannot.

Conclusion: (Conclude the topic with future and/or impact)

In conclusion, sports and education complement each other in making a balanced individual. Countries where sports and education are valued equally not only have a better standard of living but also better growth rates since individuals are healthier to perform activities.

PTE Essay (IELTS Task 2): Who Determines Behavior – Law or Society

Law and behavior IELTS PTE

Some people think that law determines the behavior of the people. Others believe that society is more important than the law in building good behavior. Give your opinion with relevant examples.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

Answer:

Introduction: (Introduce the topic and give your OPINION while MENTIONING the reasons. These reasons will be explained in the body paragraphs.)

While some believe that appropriate human behavior is a product of the law of the land, others opine that it is a consequence of societal norms. I think it is influenced by both forces. Though law shapes behavior by imposing punishment and financial penalties, society determines behavior through morals, ethics, and culture.

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1 – LAW – with example 1)

Human behavior is influenced by the psychological principle of punishment and rewards, and the law plays a central role in implementing this idea. Saudi Arabia, for instance, follows the rule of “eye for an eye”. Consequently, the crime rate in that country is extremely low due to the presence of a powerful deterrent. Similarly, driving behavior such as speed limit, use of seat belts and stopping the vehicle at red light depends upon the law of the land. The fear of punishment forces individuals to follow the rule of law.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2 – SOCIETY – with example 2)

Societal values play an equally important role in determining behavior. Cultural values in India, such as love for animals and plants, has deeply impacted people’s attitude towards nature. While the culture of individualism in western countries drives people to live alone, the values of the joint family bring people closer in the eastern countries. Social norms such as fashion and language play an important role in shaping people’s behavior.

Moreover, cultural norms of hard work and chasing the American dream have shaped the normal American behavior of working from morning untill night. Africans, on the other hand, follow the traditional culture of working during the day and resting at night.

Conclusion: (Conclude + future and/ or impact)

Thus, while there are numerous factors that shape the behavior of humans, both the fear of law and societal values play a significant role. To make a society more prosperous and safe, the governments and all institutions should use these forces.

PTE Essay (IELTS Task 2): Influence of a Region on Success.

key to success

What is the influence of a region on a person’s success? Give your opinion and give relevant examples.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

Answer:

Please go through a similar essay: Success is About Hard Work or Money?

Introduction: (Introduce along with your OPINION and MENTION reasons supporting your opinion.)

Undoubtedly, a region has a deep impact on its residents. I believe it plays a crucial role in a person’s economic success or failure. A region influences the education an individual gets, the opportunities he comes across and the work culture he imbibes.

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1 – Education)

Educational standards are distinct for different countries and within a country, they vary from one region to another. For instance, Canada’s education system is superior to that of India. However, within Canada, the Toronto region has better education infrastructure than many parts of interior Canada. Thus, a person educated in Toronto has higher chances of success than a person born anywhere else in Canada or in India.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2 – Economic Opportunities)

Similarly, economic opportunities vary from one region to another. Regional concentration of business leads more economic opportunities in certain areas leading to higher chances of success for people of that region. New Delhi and Mumbai are, for example, business and commerce hubs of India. A person born in the hinterland of Punjab has far lesser opportunities than a person who has witnessed business in these cities.

Body Paragraph 3: (Reason 3 – Work Culture)

Most importantly, the culture of a region plays an instrumental role in the success of its individuals. The United States is often divided into several parts based on its work culture. While Eastern U.S.A is termed as the business hub of the world with its 24 hours work culture, Western U.S.A is more relaxed. Consequently, the chances of success for a person are more in the Eastern part of the country.

Conclusion: (Conclude by mentioning the other side of the debate + future and impact.)

Though some individuals have undoubtedly succeeded despite their regional backwardness (Other side of the debate), these examples an exception and not a rule. A region shapes an individual in numerous ways, and this is the primary reason that people migrate from one area to another.

PTE 2017 Essay (IELTS task 2): Travel Abroad or Locally

travel abroad or locally IELTS PTE

Some people like to travel outside their country. Others would rather travel to tourist spots in their own country first, before traveling abroad. Which do you prefer to do and why? Include specific details and examples to support your choice.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

Answer:

Introduction: (Introduce the topic, give your opinion and MENTION reasons supporting your opinion. EXPLAIN the reasons with examples in body paragraph only.)

Increasing income levels across the world and falling cost of travel since mid-twentieth century have enabled people to travel more. People prefer traveling both abroad and locally. I believe that they should first explore their own country before touring other countries during holidays. This not only makes the regional economy stronger and creates local jobs but also helps people understand local cultures.

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1 with example 1)

Touring one’s own country adds economic value that helps sustain regions totally dependent on tourism. For instance, the North Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are reliant on tourism for the creation of jobs and wealth. People throughout India visit these states for witnessing the beauty of the Himalayas and, in turn, support local families. This also helps reduce regional imbalance within a country.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2 with example 2)

Moreover, traveling within a country helps people understand local customs, traditions, and language. This helps make a diverse country like India unitary. For instance, India is a mosaic of hundreds of cultures ranging from Tamil and Malayalam in the south to Punjabi and Kashmiri in the North. Similarly, there are more than a hundred languages spoken within India with about one thousand dialects. Before venturing to foreign lands and understanding their culture, it is vital for Indians to understand these cultures.

In addition, exploring a local area is less costly as compared to touring other countries. Most of the expenses for international travel are not on recreation but on transportation. Recreating in local areas helps spend money on holidaying rather than on airfare.

Conclusion: (Conclude with FUTURE and IMPACT)

In conclusion, exploring the length and breadth of one’s own country will make local economy stronger, create more jobs and reduce cultural gaps that divide a country. Though visiting foreign countries is important for business purposes, one must give preference to one’s own country for recreational purposes.

PTE Essay (IELTS Topic 2): Should Jobs be Reserved for Women?

women reservation IELTS PTE Essay

Most high-level jobs are done by men. Should governments encourage that a certain percentage of these jobs be reserved for women? What is your opinion?

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

Answer:

Introduction: (Introduce the topic and MENTION your opinion as well as reasons supporting your opinion)

Since the dawn of human civilization, men have dominated the high-paying, high-level positions in most cultures. Their position has been strengthened with the more recent phenomenon of industrialization. In such a scenario, it is impossible for women to uplift themselves without the support of the government. Reservation will not only promote economic upliftment of women and bring social equity but also make the world of business more diverse.

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1 supporting opinion)

Reservation of jobs for women in both private and public sector will lead to the economic empowerment of women across the world. Women work hard for their families. However, their labor is unpaid. Giving them economic opportunity to express themselves professionally will help them gain confidence and give financial stability to families.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 2 supporting opinion)

Moreover, reservation of jobs will bring social equity, if not equality. Bridging the economic gap between the two genders is important to bring social stability. An educated and working woman not only supports her family but also raises educated, law-abiding and financially independent children. This will also play an instrumental role in reducing violence against women and children.

Body Paragraph 3: (Reason 3 supporting opinion)

Giving more jobs to women will promote diversity in corporate as well as government sectors. Various researchers have proven that diversity of opinions in an institution helps make better and more sustainable decisions. For instance, large corporate houses such as the Tata, in India, have made it a policy to appoint at least 33 percent women members in their board of directors. Government reservation will help implement such policies in various sectors and industries.

Conclusion:

Government’s encouragement of reservation of jobs for women may be seen as an anti-merit decision by some people. However, its advantages far outweigh its disadvantages.

PTE Essay (IELTS Task 2): Education Made Compulsory Till Age 18.

schooleducation

Should school education be made compulsory till the age of 18 years? Support your opinion with reasons and examples.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

IELTS: 40minutes, 250 words at least.

Answer:

Introduction: (Introduce the topic and mention reasons that you’ll explain in the body.)

The foundation of a successful life, both socially and economically, is built during school years. In school children not only learn subjects but also interact with the peer group. This not only builds knowledge base but also the ability and confidence to express themselves. For these reasons, I believe school education should be compulsory for every child.

Body Paragraph 1: (Reason 1: Learn Subjects)

Educating children on diverse subjects is important to make them informed and better citizens. Learning the history of a country helps them understand the innumerable sacrifices various individuals made to build their country. For instance, learning South African history helps young generation understand and recognize how their country is built upon the foundation of sacrifices that won independence but also ended exploitative apartheid system.

Body Paragraph 2: (Reason 1 continue: Learn Subjects)

Similarly, a deeper understanding of sciences and mathematics enables them to comprehend the rapidly evolving world of modern technology. This also gives them the power to make calculated decisions in the world of business. Moreover, subjects such as geography increase their understanding of their country’s landscape and its people.

Body Paragraph 3: (Reason 2: Interaction)

Researchers have proven that children learn as much from teachers and books as they learn from their peer group. Interaction and discussion with classmates are vital to long-term retention and character building of children. Schools provide a perfect platform for this purpose. For example, research has shown that even in schools in remotest corners of India, where quality teachers and infrastructure are not available, students’ intelligence quotient is close to those in the capital. This has largely been attributed to social interaction in schools.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, school education plays a major role in the creation of responsible and well-informed citizens. Compulsory school education ensures that every child in the country learns subjects necessary to make informed choices and interacts with his peer group in an intelligent way.

PTE Essay (IELTS Task 2): Communication Channels have Changed.

tetui

Communication channels have changed significantly during the last decade. Discuss the pros and cons of this change. Support your answer with reasons and examples.

PTE: 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

IELTS: 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

Answer:

Introduction: (Introduce the topic and mention pros and cons. Leave explanation to body paragraphs.)

The communication channels have undergone significant changes since with dawn of the Internet in the early 1990s. However, during the last decade, its penetration to the remotest corners of almost all countries has completely altered the way we interact with each other and react to various events. This has both positive and negative consequences ranging from increased freedom of expression and reduced corruption to anarchy and misinformation.

Body Paragraph 1: (Prospect 1 – Freedom of expression)

Change in communication media from newspaper, telephone, radio, and television to Facebook, Twitter and various messengers has given every human being power to express himself more openly. Thoughts and emotions have a channel of expression. For instance, a single expression of oppression communicated on Facebook can attract millions of followers who, in turn, respond to create a positive change in society.

Body Paragraph 2: (Prospect 2 – Reduced corruption)

Communication using WhatsApp, IMO, Facebook also allows video, audio and picture sharing. Most importantly, these are now admissible in the court of law as valid evidence. Consequently, bureaucrats are terrorized of being caught accepting a bribe. Such videos spread among groups of citizens like wildfire.

Body Paragraph 3: (Constraint 1 – Anarchy)

Since the modern media of communication, often termed as the social media, is not regulated by any agency, it suffers from some serious setbacks such as the spread of misinformation that may lead to the collapse of government or even riots. For example, Arab Spring, that led to revolts across the Arab world and collapse of several stable governments, was born of unregulated communication.

Body Paragraph 4: (Constraint 2 – Misinformation)

Such media are also used by groups with vested interests to incite innocent citizens to conduct riots. India is witnessing the brunt of these actions in the form of misinformation campaigns that aim at victimizing poor Muslims in a Hindu dominated country. This has led to the lynching of private citizens to massive riots.

Conclusion: (Future and/or impact)

In conclusion, the modern channels of communication have several advantages as well as disadvantages. The disadvantages need to be neutralized by taking regulatory actions and strictly punishing those who are responsible for any misinformation.

IELTS July 2017 Essay: International Sporting Events. (Useful for PTE)

This topic is useful for PTE candidates as well. Don’t miss this Australia aspirants.

fifa

Many people want their country to host an international sporting event. Others believe that international sporting events bring more problems than benefits. Discuss both views and state your opinion.

IELTS = 40 minutes, 250 words at least.

PTE = 20 minutes, 200 to 300 words.

Answer:

Introduction: (Introduce both views; Mentions reasons for both views – don’t explain, leave that for the body; State your opinion)

There’s a great competition among countries to organize and conduct various sporting events such as the FIFA world cup, Olympics, and Commonwealth games. While some people believe this is a wastage of scarce financial resources, others think these events give a boost to national image and help build a stronger infrastructure for local residents. I think that only a few resourceful countries should conduct such events.

Body Paragraph 1: (Explain opinion 1 with example)

Global sports events require spending of millions of dollars to build stadiums, housing, transportation, and related infrastructure. It is often argued that these funds should be spent on welfare programs. Countries such as India should better invest in poverty eradication programs, education infrastructure, medical facilities and public transport than squandering scarce finance on Commonwealth games. Similarly, Brazil spent billions of dollars on summer Olympics of 2016, which left the country in heavy debt and unused and crumbling stadiums.

Body Paragraph 2: (Explain Opinion 2 with example)

However, such events are not without advantages. These events not only improve the image of the country conducting an international event but also add revenue to regional businesses through global tourists who attend these events. Moreover, these events help create long-term, sustainable infrastructure for the local population. For instance, during Commonwealth Games 2010, New Delhi, the government invested heavily in upgrading sewerage systems and stormwater drainage systems, building hospitals and modern transportation systems. These are being used effectively by the people of New Delhi these days.

 Conclusion: (My view and closing)

My view is that countries should conduct these events. However, the authorities must ensure proper financial planning coupled with ideas for post-event utilization of infrastructure.
